Whether you completed the house purchase quickly or took a long time, congratulations on buying the house you want and getting your keys.
Before starting a new life (or before packing your bags and moving in), what preparations do you need to do in order to make the check-in process smooth and full of peace of mind.
I will share with you the common preparations before moving in.
1. Door locks Replacement
When you get the keys, you can go to Costco or Home Depot to change all the door locks
2.Open accounts for water, electricity, gas, trash and recycling services and Internet
You can open accounts for water, electricity and gas to the local affiliated company. And reserve trash cans from a local service company. And sign a contract with an Internet company for Internet service.
3.Contact moving company
Before the Escrow closes, you can make an appointment with the moving company when you need to move in and move out. Arrange early to ensure there is no delay in moving into your new home.
4.Change Mailing Postal Address
You don’t want to miss any important letter, such as the letter from banks, DMV, insurance company, car dealer, etc.
Change the mailing address as soon as possible in order not to miss any important documents.

5.Other Special Cases
Three examples:
- If families have kids who need to transfer school, they must go through the registration procedures at the new school in advance.
- If there is a community management (HOA), you need to know how to make the payment and how much for the monthly fee.
- If you are planning to have home improvement, you need to make an appointment with the licensed Contractor for maintenance. Please note that you also need to get a city permit or HOA approval before construction.
The above is the information of preparation before the homeowner moves into the new homes.
